How curtains and drapes can impact your space

In terms of ‘bang for your buck’, a fresh splash of paint and a modern revamp of your window treatments is one of the cheapest, yet most dramatic ways to completely transform the look and feel of your home. That’s why we’re in the business of both.

Even better, while the two do go hand in hand together, you can easily tackle one without the other and be equally floored by the results.

A lot of people assume curtains are old-fashioned, but they don’t have to be.

Curtains are not just a means to blocking or revealing light, but can create stylish, unique and practical solutions for rooms that need a finishing touch.

Here’s how you can add the right kind of impact to your space… with drapes!

Don’t let them overpower the room or view

The drape’s fabric design shouldn’t overpower the rest of the room, including the furniture, accessories and decor – and if you’re lucky enough to have a stunning outside view, your curtains should simply frame it, not steal the show away from it.

Or…. in rooms where what’s outside is not the feature, think about colours and materials that can create rich and vibrant areas filled with warmth and colour.

Accentuate the height of a high or pitched ceiling

Everyone loves the sense of space that is added to a room by having high ceilings overhead. You can accentuate and complement that additional space further by hanging your curtains high above the top of the window frame and have them billowing down to the floor.

Keep an eye on proportion

The length should just brush the floor. The mistake made most often are drapes that are cut too short – and it looks like you’ve made a mistake, too. Aim for fullness with a fabric that hangs nicely, so they don’t look lifeless.

Play around with the colour palette

If your walls, carpet and decor are all in creams, playing it safe with cream curtains will only wash the room out further. It needn’t be a shade or pattern so outrageous.

If you’re unsure about adding a new colour, using fabrics from within the same palette can give it a stunning finish. From azure blues or turquoise tones to pastel pinks and ruby reds, you don’t have to leave the colour family in order to style your room with warmth, flair and creativity.
